Apple has designed the iPad to regularly update basic and regular software when it's connected to iPad via an Internet computer. If you do not connect your device and synchronize your data regularly, follow these simple steps to manually update your iPad operating system and other basic system software

. ITunes launches and software automatically detects and synchronizes your PC and iPad
. Select your iPad by clicking on the device list.
4. Click the "Summary tab".
5. Click "Check Update" to connect to the Apple Data Server. ITunes will now connect and see if there is any software update. A dialog box will appear that will give you the size of the update and the description if any software update is available.
6. Click the "Next" button.
7. iTunes now displays the Apple License Agreement. Click the "Accept" button to accept.
8. iTunes now downloads the software update and automatically installs the software. The iPad will restart when Apple logo is ready and the Apple logo appears.
Apple likes to read the license agreement, Apple updates the software up to the next major revision of the iPad operating system. This means that you have the iPad version 3.11. Apple provides free upgrades, such as version 3.12 to version 3.xx. When Apple releases version 4 of the iPad OS, the update is included! You may have to pay for the next major update, such as version 5.xx.
