The Symbol LS2208 scanner is a very popular lightweight, ergonomically designed barcode scanner used with many Point of Sale (POS) software. Before using the scanner with POS software, however, very simple programming steps are required to make the scanner ready for operation
One of the first steps in programming a symbolic scanner is to type the type of interface that you will use with the scanner. If you are using USB or Keyboard Wedge interfaces, you do not have to worry about programming the scanner as scanners are pre-programmed to use these interfaces
If the RS-232 or IBM A 46XX interfaces are a very simple step to programming the scanner. In Step 3 of the LS2208 Quick Start Guide, you will need to find the appropriate barcode for the OPOS / JPOS or Standard RS-232 interface. Simply by marking and scanning the scanner with the appropriate barcode, program the scanner to use the interface. The Quick Start Guide also has barcodes that allow PORT 5B or PORT 9B to scan IBM 46XX interfaces or switch back to USB or Keyboard Wedge mode.
If the interface is programmed, the next program of the program is the Enter button, the carriage return / line indentation function. This function program the scanner to attach a carriage / line feed character to the computer at the end of scanned barcodes. This eliminates the need for cashiers to press access after scanning a barcode in the POS system
To program the enter key, search the carriage / line feed function in the scanner only, barcodes can be found in the Quick Reference Guide. It is possible to insert a barcode at the end of a barcode reading in the manual and it is the same as entering the Enter key.
