GIS (Geographic Information Systems) enables visual presentation of information for analysis, interpretation, management and display of data. GIS integrates data with hardware and software and can be integrated into many system frames.
These are just two free GIS resources available in the world of digital elevation models and Bathymetry. Many companies and business types use and integrate GIS mapping into the organization.
Free GIS Resource GTOPO30
GTOPO30 is a freely available DEM. Its resolution is 30 arc seconds (about 1 km) and covers the whole world. The resolution is suitable for continental or national mapping.
The GTOPO30 was divided into tiles, which facilitated distribution. GTOP030 was completed at the end of 1996. For three years, the collaborative effort led by the US Geological Survey Center (EROS) has been developed.
Free GIS Resource Transfer Radar Topographic Mission (SRTM)
The Shuttle Radar Topographic Mission (SRTM) is an international research effort that gained DEM on a near global scale from 56 ° to 60 ° N. It has a resolution of 1 second (about 90 meters) and is suitable for regional mapping. In most parts of the world, SRTM is the most detailed available DEM. Pre-prepared shielding based on DEM is also available.
The ÓOPO1 and the Ocean Bathymetric Charter (GEBCO) is available free of charge on the Internet and comes from the same world-class models and batimetry category.
