It would be good to have a new computer each year and replace the slow PC, but we need some money, and sometimes we do not have it. So, what can we do to extend the life of our computer? Our best bet is to set up a regular scheduled maintenance plan for your computer and keep it in place.
Disconnect the power supply from the computer and open the case. Look at them, seemingly pretty dusty? If so, throw a compressed air bottle and blow out the powder, then focus on blowing out the CPU fan and the power source dust accumulated. Replace the cover on the computer.
While the computer is still pulled out, hold a washing cloth and a house with a detergent and wipe the outside of the computer. You can also grab this option to wipe the keyboard, mouse, and monitor. This not only cleans the dust, but we spend as much time on our computers as to have nothing to say about what's on our keyboards and mice. After cleaning, you should leave your computer for 30 minutes and leave it dry before you plug in your computer and turn on the computer. Your computer will love to have this hardware maintenance once a month.
Software maintenance may be a bit more tedious, as it may take a lot more time. These steps can be performed once a month or every two months if you do not have enough time. Your computer is performing better if you do not remember the schedule.
Clean temp files – This can be done with the Disk Cleanup Tool for Windows. Click Start -> Right-click "My Computer" -> Click "Explore" -> right-click "Local Disk C:" and select "Properties" and then click "Disk Maintenance". Another program that can run with this program is CCleaner. Both will help you clean unnecessary PC files.
Windows Update – Make sure your computer automatically updates Windows. You can also start Internet Explorer by clicking the "Tools" drop-down menu and selecting Windows Update.
Virus Scan – The great free viruses are AVG and Avast.
Scanning Spyware – Spybot is a good free program that can track and get rid of spyware.
Search Malware Search – Malwarebytes free software lets you check your computer for problems and get rid of them.
Cleaning the Windows Registry – Use CCleaner to check and clean the registry.
Defragmentation – Your hard disk will always be fragmented if you use your computer, but you can limit the fragmentation by sticking to the often defragmented schedule. Download Defraggler for a great defragmentation program.
